My mom formerly told me that when she gave birth to me it was the happiest, most memorable day of her whole life. Reckoning back, i found it insane now that I used to ask my mother for a load of things, even just to make a simple problem or just simply obtaining water out of the refrigerator just because I was too drawn-out to do so myself. My mama is stressed out most of the time because of multi-tasking between her work and taking care of us that at some point I assured I would never be a mum, ever. I mean, who would wish to have a 24 hour job with no break times, rest days, holidays and worst, a delayed pay? And all the time you have to manage hard-headed children and constant household tasks.

But what is the true essence of being a mother?

What things do we have to hold to be called a mum? Are mothers really that fantastic for them to have their individual yearly celebration? These are the queries that I did not wish to be faced with.

Fortunately, the good heavens above twisted my destiny and turned the tides and eventually had me trave to the other side of maternal fear. Below are the things I have come to realize while going through maternity.

"Its Okay Mommy's Here" always works like a charm when trying to make your kids stop crying; That only one pretty face exists no matter what the circumstances are and mothers have it; When you hear the quote "Mother Knows Best" is equivalent to the phrase "I told you so" or you have to have your mom's approval on everything specially your choice of women or men in your life.

Most of all, being a mom means being the sole light in the household when there is dark, a source of happiness when there is sadness, where hope comes from when there is hopelessness, the ultimate source of love. Being a mother comes with a plethora of emotions all rolled into one that defies reason.

Being a mother means giving life to your kids, teach them things, let them know right from wrong, giving them freedom to live their lives but not living it for your children, not learning it for them, not deciding it for them but in the end be accountable for them.

Supporting your children in every path they take even though its the least path you would like them to take. Being is a mother is to always be present despite the pain. Because the truth is, once a mother, always a mother.

So what does it take to become a mother? It takes unbelievable and immeasurable courage. And why are mothers so special because they can take the place of all other people but then expect nothing in return. Therefore it is extremely important for them to be commemorated because they are the ones that brought us into this world and on top of that gave up theirs.

I know this because I have a very wonderful mom. And now that I am one, the best part of my day is the fact I am important, I am valued, I am needed and I can love my children with unconditional love all my life and I will.
